True wealth.

We’ve talked about this before, but in times like this, we need all the reminders we can get.

If you have running water in your home, you’re better off than 90% of the rest of the world. Can you hear your mind say, “Yeah, BUT …” There is no but. We truly are so much better off than most people in the world; we just forget about it, take things for granted and feeling like a doll one of my cousins had – Poor Pitiful Pearl.

Just pause and look around your home and admire what you have. Stop and be grateful that you have what you have. Dwell on some of the things you have and imagine how it might be if you had nothing. We have so much to be thankful for and we often find ourselves complaining about what we don’t have, instead of what we do have.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing some truly wealthy people and I’ve noticed a common thread among them. They frequently say things like, “We’ve been so fortunate to ….”.”Life has been so good to us.” Or, “Good things just happen to us.” It seems that their conversations aren’t about problems, drama, gossip, irritations, difficulties, or issues. They’re more about how wonderful their life is or has been, but never in a bragging way. It’s more about gratitude and appreciation for their health, their friends, their families and very little about their possessions … usually things most can’t afford – like a collection of Rolls-Royces, original Van Goghs and Picassos or several very large homes.

I think they generally expect good things to keep happening for them and this is a part of what makes good things fall into place. I think it’s best to do what we can to notice when we’re complaining and just stop and force ourselves to think of a few good things to add to that conversation. It’s easy, it’s free and it can’t hurt. It’s not about being fake. It’s about finding real things to be grateful for. I like to make lists of things from time to time, and often I start with being grateful for having 2 legs, 2 arms, my sight and so on. Some people don’t even have the basics, which makes us rich on several levels. Let’s not forget how well off we are and that will help us create the realities of our wealth and keep the ball rolling. Remember, the rich get richer.

Affirmation: I’m rich. I really am.
